Merriott Primary School

Year 3

CLASS TEACHER – Mr. David Oliver

WELCOME TO YEAR 3

In Codlin class, we look forward to an exciting year of learning through hands-on activities, stories, and exciting challenges that will help us grow our independence and confidence as we transition into Key Stage 2.

This year we will strive to become more confident readers, creative writers and independent thinkers. We will work to develop our mathematical skills and build our competence as enthusiastic problem solvers. We will learn how to take responsibility for our learning, work as a team and build resilience when things feel tricky.

Afternoon sessions comprise one or two foundation subjects such as art, music, French, RE, geography, history, PE, PSHE, DT or science.

PE

We will have PE on a Wednesday afternoon.

Homework & Reading

Codlin Class will receive their homework on Mondays, to be returned on the following Monday. Each piece of homework will include a Spag task, a times table task, and a minimum of 4 reads a week. It may be beneficial to attempt to complete the homework earlier in the week, so students can ask me for help if needed. There will also be an extended homework task that children can participate in, linked to a topic they are learning each half-term.

Daily Essentials

  • Children will need a water bottle and a healthy snack daily.
  • Reading book & log.
  • PE kit (Wednesday).
  • Coat (weather dependent).
